The Ruth Borun Nursery and Propagation Center at Descanso Gardens serves as the backbone for growing, protecting, and enhancing the garden collections. The nursery staff is constantly active and working on projects: from growing annual plants for the Promenade, to establishing native California species, to archiving and saving clones of our historic lilac, camellia, and rose varieties.
This behind-the-scenes tour offers an opportunity to understand what it takes to care for and preserve the diverse plants of Descanso Gardens.
About the Instructor: Frank Obregon, a longtime plant devotee and nurseryman, currently oversees the Descanso nursery facilities and operations where he focuses on maintaining and breeding new varieties from our chrysanthemum, lilac, and camellia collections. Frank has spent many years working with carnivorous plants and native California plants. He is a proud graduate of Cal Poly, Pomona.

Harness the power of the sun to create botanically-themed photographic art without a camera! Cidne Hart, featured artist in Roots of Cool, teaches this sun print workshop, also called cyanotype. Students will have the opportunity to expose cyanotypes using natural material from the gardens and create beautiful artworks to take home. All materials are provided.
This program is generously funded, in part, by Perenchio Foundation.
About the Instructor: Cidne Hart has showcased her art in northeast Los Angeles and other exhibits across the US for the past 25 years. Whether she's teaching in a classroom setting or experimenting on her garden porch, she is eager to share her love for cyanotypes and fabric art. Visit her website alchemy9x3.weebly.com/cidne.
