Create your own living jade forest inspired by the Japanese art of Saikei. Using stone, bonsai soil and Portulacaria afra, commonly known as the jade plant, you'll learn the principles of landscape composition, balance, depth, and perspective while creating a unique living landscape to take home. Daniel Deephouse will guide participants through planting, pruning, styling, and long-term care in this beginner-friendly workshop. This workshop includes all materials and instruction.

About the Instructor: Daniel Deephouse is a lifelong bonsai practitioner and educator from Perth, Australia. He began studying bonsai at the age of eight under the guidance of his grandmother, Elizabeth Deephouse. He is currently the Assistant Curator of Bonsai at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens and teaches private, group, and corporate workshops. His work centers on using bonsai to foster presence, creativity, and connection to the natural world.
