Words inspire images, images inspire words. This workshop is designed to immerse participants in the environment of the gardens, translating the sensory experience of nature into an expressive, personal narrative in visual art. 

In the lush setting of the Descanso Gardens we will explore the intersection of language and visual art through a process of observation and translation. Inspired by the natural surroundings we will move from simple words and evocative phrases to poetic visual descriptions on paper. 

Designed for all skill levels, this workshop encourages seeing and interpreting the world around you. Artistic skill is secondary to engagement and personal interpretation.

About the Instructor: John Pitblado has always been drawn to the creative arts. This passion led him to the University of Minnesota and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, where he was immersed in the world of fine arts and garment textile design. In 2017, he joined Urban Sketchers Los Angeles. Teaching is truly in his DNA, John seeks to blend his love for art, education, and community—helping others find the same fulfillment and inspiration in sketching that continues to enrich his own journey.
