Want to learn more about how to identify plants? Having a good foundation in ID characteristics can make all the difference. Regardless of what tools you use -- a book, an app, or your own memory – these skills will be helpful in learning to recognize the plants around you. This class, taught by Autumn Ayers, our Garden Records and Collections Manager, is geared towards new learners, with an indoor presentation covering terms and a walk to learn some basic species found in our area.

About the Instructor: Autumn Ayers is the Garden Records & Collections Manager at Descanso Gardens, making her the registrar of the collections. She likes to describe herself as “the plant librarian and plant detective.” Before shifting her studies and career to horticulture, Autumn’s original college concentration was in cross-cultural communication, focusing her studies on “universal languages” like art, music, and psychology in addition to her major studies of French and Japanese. After earning her BS in horticulture, she interned in Public Horticulture at the University of Pennsylvania and in Plant Records at Longwood Gardens.

This is an indoor/outdoor class, please dress appropriately.
